The key to a successful camporee is to make sure everyone is involved
in the planning and that the many tasks are distributed among many
people. This page contains a list of decisions that need to be made and
things that need to be organized for a camporee.
Program
- What is the Theme?
- Program Elements: For each item:
- Do we do it?
- When/how do we do it?
- Who will run it?
- Possible Program Elements:
- Program events for during the day
- Cooking competition
- Scouts' Own
- Opening & closing flag ceremonies
- Evening activity: campfire, karaoke, sing-along
- Prize for campsite theme, costumes
- Scouter/Patrol Leader meetings: refreshments?
- Zip line, climbing wall, rappelling: do we use tickets for scheduling?
- Ultimately, there needs to be a full program schedule including who will be responsible for what.
- Auction:
- Do we have an auction?
- How is it run? What are the bidding rules? (blind-silent in 2004)
- Business donations
- Troop donations; give Bonus Dollars for these
- Bought ($200 budget 2004): KW Surplus and TSC gave a 10% off on
items purchased for the auction. A&W provided a discount on root
beer. The Canadian Tire likes to have a letter requesting donations.
It is best to deliver it in person. (Their Weber Street Store in
Waterloo gave $50 in 2004.)

- Water supply: Ranger's House or closer?

- How many to order?
- First Aid, security, & parking:
- Who will do it? (In 2004, 43rd Kitchener Venturers did First Aid and
Cherie Montgomery's Rover Crew did security/parking)
- Policy regarding cars: e.g. are they allowed into camp?
- Radio communication:
- For what do we need this? Who will carry radios?
- Who will arrange this?
- Food for Venturers, Rovers, & other helpers:
- What meals are provided? (Sat. Lunch only in 2004)
- Who will prepare this?
- It must be clear who will be fed to avoid wasted food and money.
- Budgets:
- Each person must estimate there "needs" and "wants".
- Who will assemble final budget?
- Must set the registration fee based on budget needs.
- (A $700 balance is available from the 2004 camporee.)
