We started the evening with a pot luck dinner. The food was plentiful
and a good variety. Appreciated was the shrimp ring that Scouter Mom
brought. Of course it would have been better if it was still not frozen
from the 11th Kitchener's canoe trip a week before. The marvels of dry
ice. We are still trying to figure out what is wrong with porridge for
breakfast. All in all it was a good meal.
The Introduction to Scouting Day will be at Camp Mohawk from 09:30 to
15:30. Ted will look after getting word out. This training session will
cover the basics for the new youth to get their permits. If time and
instructors permit other items will be covered as well. Help is needed
to run the different sessions. Please contact Ted if you can help. Each
youth is responsible to bring their own lunch or if a troop is coming
they can make their own lunch.
This training is for Patrol Leaders and APLs only; it is not designed
for all of your youth. Liam will check if there is a facility at Camp
Impeesa that will be available. Instructors are needed with this event.
Please contact Liam if you can help. We are looking at using the same
program as we have used for the last couple of year. Liam will check and
see if there is an updated version available. Scouter Kirstin has agreed
to be the QM for this event.
The hike will be from
Mount Nemo
Scout Camp, through
Mount Nemo
Conservation Area, and back to the camp, visiting the caves on the
way. The 11th Kitchener will be staying at the camp Friday to Sunday. If
you would like to join them please contact Scouter Ted at least three
weeks before the event. Otherwise, meet for the hike at Mount Nemo Scout
Camp on Saturday.
Discussion centred on having this hike somewhere around the Camp Mohawk
area. A discussion will be made at a later meeting as to route and time.
As has been agreed upon at a previous meeting, the NWSC will move our
traditional camporee to coincide to the North Waterloo 75th Anniversary
Camp at Camp Everton. It was suggested that for our main activity that
we consider getting a wagon and putting it across the river by the
stepping stones. Then we would get some poles to represent hydro poles
and then lash line across for hydro wires, creating an representation of
the North Waterloo emblem. This would also make a good photo
opportunity. We may have to make a wagon if we cannot procure one. Rob
also mentioned that we could set up an archaeological dig. He will look
into this further and report back. The idea of the fire in the pan and
Jamie's water jet are still popular and we should do them.
How to increase membership to come to club meetings. One suggestion is
when NW groups go to camp we should go as a NW contingent. Example Owen
Sound Winter Camp. Find out who is all going and rent a bus. All camp
together and in the centre put a gather area for leaders to meet and
talk, etc. to help build connections. Would like to hear about what
topics you would like to discuss in the pentagon session. Should look at
asking when phoning to remind Scouters of the next meeting. Daniel was
going to look into someone coming out from the Power Squadron to talk to
us at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be Monday, October 6, 2008 at 19:00 at North
Waterloo Scout House.
