75th Anniversary Camporee — May 29–31, 2009

The Club is organizing the Scout Camporee portion of the event, i.e., the Saturday events for the Scouts attending the camp (this is similar to what we do already for our Camporee). The activities planned will also be attended by the Beavers and Cubs. The events will be planned in detail at the next meeting. Suggested program:

75th Anniversary Camporee — May 29–31, 2009

Scouter Ted attended the planning meeting. The Club needs to organize the Scout Camporee portion of the event, i.e. the Saturday events, etc., that the Club wants to run for the Scouts attending the camp (this is similar to what we do already for the Camporee). We will plan out the events at the next meeting.

75th Anniversary Camporee — May 29–31, 2009

As has been agreed upon at a previous meeting, the NWSC will move our traditional camporee to coincide to the North Waterloo 75th Anniversary Camp at Camp Everton. It was suggested that for our main activity that we consider getting a wagon and putting it across the river by the stepping stones. Then we would get some poles to represent hydro poles and then lash line across for hydro wires, creating an representation of the North Waterloo emblem. This would also make a good photo opportunity. We may have to make a wagon if we cannot procure one. Rob also mentioned that we could set up an archaeological dig. He will look into this further and report back. The idea of the fire in the pan and Jamie's water jet are still popular and we should do them.

75th Anniversary of North Waterloo

It was decide at the last meeting to support the area team with the 75th anniversary camp with and along with our camporee. The Scouters discussed the proposed resolution in detail. The issues raised were as follows:

75th Anniversary of North Waterloo

The meeting was called to address the following motion put moved by Ted Claxton, seconded by Cindy Elliot:

Next year will be the 75th Anniversary of the North Waterloo District/Area.

The Area Team would like to hold a special event at Camp Everton on the weekend of the Camporee. That event would be open to everyone. It may be that the Area Team will ask if the Cub section could revise their Cuboree date so that both events happening on the Everton Celebration weekend. The Area Team will also be looking into the other sections participating in the event.

I am giving notice of a Special Meeting of the NWSC to be held Saturday the 24th of May 2008 in the evening after 21:00h (9:00 p.m.). The topic of the Special Meeting will be to consider participation in the 75th Anniversary event by incorporating our Camporee weekend into the celebration.

Be it resolved that The NW Scouters' Club should accommodate the North Waterloo Area by having a 75th Anniversary event Everton in conjunction with and during the Camporee Weekend in 2009.

The Scouters discussed the proposed resolution in detail. The issues raised were as follows:

Motion unanimously approved.

The group discussed the construction of the Fort. Jamie will look about more rope. Ted will obtain a roll of twine. Also needed are balloons for the water balloons. Ted will bring flour for the "Siege of Mafeking". The trebuchet will be used as Big Bertha.

Afternoon Events

Zip line: Ted will contact Kevin Donovan about the cadet group that has the portable zip line setup. Jamie felt that he could construct one if he could see the actual set up.

Other

There is a new Scouter at 11th Kitchener Scouts: Andrew (Andy) Bowman. He will be at the Camporee.

April 30, 2007
North Waterloo Camporee — May 27-29, 2007

The Saturday morning program will be Building Fort Mafeking, a participatory activity where each patrol will build one section of the fort using pioneering skills.

Afternoon program:

Cook off: In view of the B-P's 150th Birthday theme, the cook-off will be a cake decorating contest. Each troop is to bring a plain cake and decorating items. Design and presentation to be the criteria. After the campfire will be cake eating. For decorating, icing syringes can be found at the dollar store.

A wide game plan is still needed.

Logistics

The Camporee is a club event. Its success depends on each troop taking responsibility for a part. Come to the next Scouters' Club meeting to register your troop and to volunteer for part of the event.

[A Post-meeting idea from Scouter Ted: An idea for this, the Siege of Mafeking. We could get out the trebuchet and have it fire about 10 paper wrapped flour bombs at the Fort at a time and have patrols of "sharpshooters" go out from the "Fort" to throw flour wrapped bombs at the Scouts who are operating the trebuchet. It might work with water balloons also.]

April 11, 2007
North Waterloo Camporee — May 27-29, 2007

After the meal discussion was centred around the camporee. The main question that came up is, has the camp been booked? If not who is looking after this? 69th Kitchener Rovers will not be doing security this year. Pierre has a few guys that could do it but he needs to know now so that they can be booked. A design was decided on for the camporee crest and Ken is going to get this in motion. Jamie has agreed to run the water canon again this year. Are we going to run most of the same events again this year? Are we going to do the silent blind auction? What about the cook off? When is our next meeting going to be to discuss the camporee?

December 7, 2006
North Waterloo Camporee — May 25-27, 2007

2007 will be the 56th Annual North Waterloo Camporee. Because of the lack of attendance we will need to get to work on the Camporee at the next meeting. The 150th anniversary of B-P's birth will be the theme. A special anniversary crest will be available. Think about B-P related events for the next meeting. We reviewed the suggestions from the September 26 meeting so we should work on expanding this list. The Camporee is run by the club and the members who undertake to do an event should be picking the place and ensuring that everything necessary is on hand.

November 1, 2006
North Waterloo Camporee — May 25-27, 2007

The members in attendance discussed the theme. Many events will be using the 100th anniversary of Scouting theme. The camporee theme will be the 150th anniversary of BP's birth. Scouters should think about BP-related events for the next meeting. Scouters must remember that the Camporee is run by the Club members. Those responsible for each event should be picking the site for it and ensuring that everything necessary is on hand.

September 26, 2006
North Waterloo Camporee — May 25-27, 2007

Scouters discussed ideas for the program of the camporee, which will focus on the 100th anniversary of Scouting and the 150th anniversary of BP's birth. Some ideas:

It was generally agreed that the theme for next year's camporee, May 25-27, 2007, would be either or both of Scouting's 100th Anniversary and the 150th Anniversary of BP's birth. Ted has booked Everton.

May 9, 2006
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 26-28, 2006

The group discussed the Camporee and updated the 2006 Camporee Plan.

Wheeler Challenge Shield

Ted read a note, written by Les Wheeler in 1975, describing the criteria for the Wheeler Challenge Shield:

The Wheeler Challenge Shield

To be presented to the patrol which best exemplifies the spirit of co-operation and teamwork in meeting the camping skills and campsite objectives of the Camporee (not including the fun events) and conforms with the following provisions:

  1. Must be at least five in number
  2. Must be as close as possible to a natural patrol (as opposed to a handpicked patrol)

(signed) L. T. Wheeler, Dec. '75

A volunteer is needed to coordinate the award. Everyone in camp is asked to keep their eye out for patrols whose conduct is consistent with the goals of the award and report that to the coordinator. Ted will obtain a keeper plaque.

March 7, 2006
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 26-28, 2006

The group discussed the Spring Camporee.

Morning program events:

The afternoon program will be a mass pioneering project and competition. Each troop will build a catapult. There are 150 spars at camp. Each troop must bring their own rope.

The evening program will include the auction, campfire, Karaoke, and a cook-off/dessert buffet.

[Kevin Donovan indicated after the meeting that 75-100 Girl Guides will be camping in the field by the Scout parking lot on the Camporee weekend.]

January 10, 2006
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 26-28 2006

Scouters discussed themes for the 55th Annual North Waterloo Camporee, including Monty Python, Harry Potter, and Narnia. The members felt that the Monty Python theme was too adult-oriented and settled on the Narnia theme. The following Events were suggested:

Cindy's group will look after the crest design.

Ideas for the cook-off include making a Turkish delight, cooking with a suggest a list of ingredients, or making desert. Cindy will get the quote from the Narnia story that describes the Turkish Delight.

The Blind Silent Auction with money earned at events will be used again as it is a good motivator. There will be a budget amount to purchase some items. Every group should bring an item for the Auction.

The Karaoke will be back by popular demand. Scouter Viet has a machine and only needs a TV set to show it. Jamie will organize the lighting.

Anything needed from the Ranger needs to be coordinated with him the week ahead. There should be a map of the events for every patrol. The Camp Fee will be $15. Ted will put together the paperwork.

October 11, 2005
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 26-28, 2006

Scouters discussed the Spring Camporee. Karaoke was popular in past years and requested by several Scouts for this year. One suggested theme is Monty Python with such activities are The Bridge of Death, Find the Shrubbery, Toss the Holy Hand Grenade, and Fechez la Vache. Some people felt that many Scouts would not know enough about Monty Python. A decision about the theme will be made at the next meeting.

Scouters discussed possible activities for a cooking/food theme, some of which need to be fleshed out:

September 27, 2005
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 26-28, 2006

The theme will be discussed at the next meeting. Ed Wright probably knows themes from past years which could be repeated.

June 14, 2005
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 27-29, 2005

There were 136 Scouts in attendance at the Camporee. Financially, the camporee made a small surplus. Scouters discussed the event and made observations and suggestions for next year:

May 10, 2005
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 27-29, 2005

Liam distributed a chart showing the plan for the weekend which included the activities and who had volunteered to run each item. There were many blanks. Various people volunteered to fill the various roles.

This year there are no troop pennants. Scouters discussed the possibly have a plaque next year for good Scouting spirit.

Scouters discussed what should be included the Patrol Leaders' Meeting on Friday evening and the Assistant PL's Meeting on Saturday evening:

January 11, 2005
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 27-29, 2005

The group discussed the Camporee. Ted will put together the application form [it is now available on the web and at NW Scout House]. Ted and Pierre will look after the Crest. The fee will be $15. The Tuck Shop is a good money maker and the Scouts like it. Ted will ask Ed Wright to run it [Ed has agreed]. Pierre will check with Medical Venturers to see if they will do First Aid. At the next meeting, a budget will be prepared and a Camp Chief will be chosen.

Each troop is to bring an item for the Silent Auction. People will also have to search out donations and deals. Tony Skells should be invited to help us with this at the next meeting.

Main Events

Scouters suggested some events in addition to those suggested at previous meetings.

The group settled on a cartoon theme and the name Coyote Canyon Camporee. There will be some "fun" events and some competition events. Events will include:

All Scouts are invited to submit designs for the camporee crest. Designs must include "North Waterloo Camporee 2005", be on a cartoon theme, and be presented at the January 11 Club meeting.

Scouters are encouraged to discuss themes with their troops. Program ideas include a dress-up night and a talent show. Brian Robertson has offered to run the climbing wall and rappelling. Last year's fees were $16 until May 1 and $20 after. There is a $700 balance from past camporees. Camp Everton is booked.

June 9, 2004
NWSC Spring Camporee — May 28-30, 2004

Wayne Zinger reported that there were 15 troops in attendance, 5 of these from outside of North Waterloo, There were 155 Scouts in attendance. The Bonus Bucks and silent auction worked out well. Every patrol won a box. Each troop that brought an item received extra bonus bucks. The Karaoke started out slow but the Scouts got into it and it went on past the scheduled time. It would be helpful to have people identified to get the singing started. There was way more root beer than required. Brian Robertson operated the zipline and climbing wall with the assistance of the 1st Mt. Forest Venturers. 32nd Kitchener First Aid Venturers also assisted the Rover Guild in providing Security.

KW Surplus and TSC gave a 10% off on items purchased for the auction. A&W provided a discount on the root beer. The Canadian Tire likes to have a letter requesting donations. It is best to deliver it in person. Their Weber Street Store in Waterloo gave $50.

Communication with the Groups is a problem. Scouters need to learn about the website and that the information is all there.

The Club scheduled next year's Camporee for May 27-29, 2005. Scouter Ted has already booked Camp Everton. Everyone should think about the theme for next year's Camporee.

Each troop will be asked to send crest designs. All crest designs must be in by March 15, 2004. There will be a prize awarded for the best crest design. Staff will be limited this year to cut back on food waste and confusion as to who is staff and who are the volunteers. Numerous Rover crews will be approached to staff positions such as parking, site designation, and security. We're trying to get a big map of the Everton camp layout so that each group will be in an identified site on the map, so much easier for late arrivals. Diane will ask Pam Parker if she would like to quartermaster this event for staff this year. Ed Wright and Barb will run the tuck shop. Rovers will be asked to provide for themselves except for Saturday lunch. Site inspection sheets will be given out ahead of time: one inspection on Saturday afternoon with bonus money for theme sites.

The Club decided to use the NWD Camporee as an opportunity for promotion. An announcement about the Club will be made at the Scouters' meeting. A flyer, with upcoming dates and contact information, will be distributed. To make this easier, this information will be printed on a business card. Ben offered to take care of the printing. Club members at the Camporee may camp together. Dates for Club events will be put into the NWD calendar.

February 13, 2001
North Waterloo District Camporee — May 25-27, 2001

Ted suggested that the NWD Camporee would be a good opportunity to promote the Club. To do this, the Club could camp together and bring with it several activities to add to the camp. Venturers can be involved in running these. There could be a Club meeting at the camp. This will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting.
