Regrets

Opening

Ted opened the meeting.

NWSC Fall Hike — November 18-20, 2005

Ted Claxton and Mark Willsie commented on the hike. It was agreed that the route was a good one and that the hike was within the capabilities of the Scouts. Scouter Nick could hike it in less than three hours. This weekend seems to annual have relatively good weather and it should be considered for next year. Scouter Nick suggested hiking Speyside to Hilton Falls. This might be a challenging distance for the youth. Scouter Ted mentioned the possibility of Vineland to Wetaskewin Scout Camp. The members felt that those who wanted to make it a day hike would find that the destination it too far away Limehouse to Blue Springs was suggested by Scouter Ted. Crawford Lake to Camp of the Woodland Trails via Hilton Falls was suggested and Manitou to Hilton Falls via Crawford Lake was suggested.

Owen Sound Winter Camporee — January 27-29, 2006

The 21st Waterloo and 11th Kitchener have expressed that they will be attending. 11th Kitchener will be Bowling on Saturday night.

Spring Thaw Scouters' Social — April 11, 2006

The group settled on April 11 for the Spring Thaw Scouters' Social. It will be held at Camp Mohawk or, in case of rain, at NW Scout House. Scouter Pierre will look after the Sausages.

NWSC Spring Camporee — May 26-28 2006

Scouters discussed themes for the 55th Annual North Waterloo Camporee, including Monty Python, Harry Potter, and Narnia. The members felt that the Monty Python theme was too adult-oriented and settled on the Narnia theme. The following Events were suggested:

Cindy's group will look after the crest design.

Ideas for the cook-off include making a Turkish delight, cooking with a suggest a list of ingredients, or making desert. Cindy will get the quote from the Narnia story that describes the Turkish Delight.

The Blind Silent Auction with money earned at events will be used again as it is a good motivator. There will be a budget amount to purchase some items. Every group should bring an item for the Auction.

The Karaoke will be back by popular demand. Scouter Viet has a machine and only needs a TV set to show it. Jamie will organize the lighting.

Anything needed from the Ranger needs to be coordinated with him the week ahead. There should be a map of the events for every patrol. The Camp Fee will be $15. Ted will put together the paperwork.

Summer Camp Opportunities

Scouters discussed several options for troop summer camp.

Everton Scout Camp

Everton Summer Scout Camp will be July 22-28, 2006. Ted urged that there be club participation in the planning. Phil Schmidt and Viet will lead the hiking program. Scouter Ted will be in camp along with John McCuish and Anne Macdonald. Scouters should arrange to come to camp with a patrol. The theme this year will be Railway. The program will include a trip either to the steam train in Tottenham or to the Halton County Radial Railway museum and perhaps the Aberfoyle Junction Model Railroad. The camp fee will be $250.

Haliburton Scout Reserve

The 1st Freeport will be going to HSR July 22-29. Speak to Jamie Leggot or Cindy Elliot if you would like to join them. 9th Waterloo and 11th Kitchener are considering attendance. 4th Waterloo may also be going in August.

Great Lakes Jamboree

Wayne Hessel will be involved with the Great Lakes Jamboree at Camp BEL near London July 8-16. This has BSA and Scouts Canada participation. Camp fee is $185, not including food and transportation to the site.

Patrol Leadership Workshop — November 4-6, 2005

The team felt that the workshop was successful. Cindy Elliot noted that their Scouts were keen to implement what they had learned. The Workshop will be held form the November 3-5, 2006.

The members discussed the problem of the Court of Honour in a small group. It may be better in that circumstance to have a group council. Some of the members felt that we should have a role play and a discussion about the Court of Honour.

The members also felt that it would be helpful if Liam Morland demonstrated sample session from the BSA program material that he has mentioned. It would give everyone an idea and feel for what it was all about.

Evaluation of Meeting

The members felt the meeting stayed on track and accomplished the agenda without too many distractions.

Scouting 2007

The local Centennial Patrol was meeting at the same place and time. Upon adjournment, several members attended their planning meeting. The Centennial Group is planning for the August 1, 2007 celebration. They suggested that there be a camp-out. Suggested sites were a Laural Creek Conservation Area, Waterloo or Victoria Park, Bingamens, Riverside Park in Cambridge, and Conestoga College. The Centennial Patrol feet that this would be a good combined North and South Waterloo event. They are keen to have the participation of active Scouters as they feel this is an event in which the youth should have a central role. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, February 28 at NW Scout House. Submit ideas to Scouter Jim Tait.

Adjournment

The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at North Waterloo Scout House.
