The NW Scouters' Club is a co-operative of Scout Troops. Representatives of member Scout Troops gather to share ideas and experience, plan joint activities, and pursue other projects of mutual benefit.
Ken Coyle spoke about the fall socials for Scouters in North Waterloo. All Scouters are invited to come. The event will be on Tuesday, September 27, 2006. Meet and Green at 17:45; Let's Eat and Talk at 18:00; Campfire at 19:00; Let's Head Home (or stay and talk some more) at 19:30. Ken is looking for a campfire chief for the event.
There will be an all-section Scouters' Social on Tuesday, September 27 at Camp Mohawk. It will be a potluck dinner to introduce all the group committee members and a chance to socialize with each other around the campfire. This event is being coordinated by Ken.
Scouters suggested that money could be saved by using a church hall rather then Victoria Park, which cost $160. A speaker system would have been helpful. Lloyd indicated he could provide one. The attendees appreciated the BBQ. Sixty sausages were sold. There were about 80 people in attendance.
Thanks were extended to Ben Noseworthy for the sausages. It was good to see a number of new people at the event. The Club decided to have a Spring Thaw BBQ for Scouters in May, 2003 at Camp Mohawk. Planning will take place at the next meeting.
Twenty-five Scouters turned out for the NWSC Spring BBQ. Scouters socialised around the campfire while enjoying good food. The bike hike and canoe trip were discussed (see below). It was a chilly night. Scouters agreed that next spring it should happen a little later in the year.
This Spring Thaw will be similar to previous Scouters' socials. Meet and greet will be at 17:30, flag break and dinner at 18:30, campfire at 19:30. Lloyd volunteered to bring Tidbits, Pierre sausages, Jay a desert, Ted rolls, and Mark and 8th Kitchener salads. All should bring their own drinks (non-alcoholic). Ted will contact 1st Elmira regarding borrowing their large BBQ. Ted and Al will bring coffee pots. A phone and email blitz will be coordinated shortly before the event.
The Fall Ice Break drew a many people, including a number of new faces. Thanks go to Ben Noseworthy for the sausages. A "Spring Thaw" social will be held in the spring, probably on April 9, 2002 at Camp Mohawk. Planning will be done at the next meeting.
The Fall Ice Breaker will be a BBQ social for Scouters on October 2 at Camp Mohawk in Kitchener. Scouters will gather starting at 17:30 for dinner at 18:00. Ted and Jim will organise a phone blitz of Scouters. Ted will book Camp Mohawk, arrange for a BBQ with Duncan Smith, and bring buns. Ben will bring sausages. Pierre will bring water. Tony will bring condiments and cole slaw. Scouters should bring their own mess kit, mug, and drinks. All troop-level Scouters are invited.
About two-dozen Scouters enjoyed a relaxed BBQ at Camp Mohawk, the Club's first social event. Scouters appreciated the opportunity for social interaction with other Scouters. Ben said that events like this help one to feel part of a larger team, rather than isolated in one troop. Thanks go out to Duncan Smith, Brian Robertson, Ben, and Ted for bringing various items. Special thanks to Mike Costello of Key Bond for donating salads, and thanks to Pierre for coordinating this.
Scouters agreed that social events will help bring together the Scouters in the area. An "ice breaker" social in the fall was discussed. The Club decided to hold such an event on October 2, 2001. Meet and greet will be at 17:30; eating at 18:30; campfire at 19:30.
Ben has confirmed a supply of sausages and Pierre salads. Ted will get buns and marshmallows, and the key for the gate. Drinks are pot-luck (no alcohol). Brian will bring firewood, and a large pot and burner for cooking. Duncan will bring a large BBQ. Scouters can arrived at 17:30; eating to begin at 18:30. There will be a campfire and lots of time for chatting. Tony will call around to get firm attendance numbers. All should wear their uniforms.
The Club will hold its spring social on Tuesday, May 29 at Camp Mohawk. All troop-section Scouters are invited to attend. Scouters will gather at 17:30 and eat starting at 18:30. A campfire will be held at 20:00. Ben offered to arrange to have sausages donated. Pierre offered to arrange for salads. Numbers of attendees will have to be known in advance so that proper quantities of food can be arranged.
