Opening

The meeting opened at 19:00. Scouter Liam led a recitation of the Scout Law. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

Introduction to Scouting Day — October 2, 2004

In attendance were 28 Scouts, 5 Venturers, and approximately 10 Scouters. The event started and ended on time. There were eight stations with four in operation in each of the morning and afternoon. Each troop arranged its own lunch. An after lunch wide game was organized by Venturer Steven Harnock and Scouter Ted. The consensus is that this was a worthwhile event. A date for for next year will be fixed in the Spring.

Some suggestions for making more effective use of older Scouts and Venturers at the end are to involve them more in teaching or having them build a monkey bridge for the Scouts to play on.

Ruth Millard asked whether something similar could be organized by the Scout section at the Cuboree for senior Cubs.

Fall Ice-Breaker — October 2, 2004

Seven Scouters attend the ice breaker in the evening following the Introduction to Scouting Day. Those who were in attendance had a good social time and got to know one another better. It was agreed that Saturday night is not a good choice of night for this event.

NWSC Patrol Leadership Workshop — November 5-7, 2004

Pierre reported in absentia that plans for the NWSC Patrol Leadership Workshop are proceeding well. Indications at the meeting were at there would be no fewer than 14 and as many as 25 participants. People who volunteered to help include: Vince (Saturday AM and Sunday), Wayne (Friday and Saturday), Mark Wilson, and Mark Willsie.

NWSC Fall Hike — November 19-21, 2004

After considering the fact that camping would not be available at Elora Gorge, the group decided to stay at Camp of the Woodland Trails in Milton and hike a loop consisting of the Bruce Trail and Hilton Falls Side Trail (Bruce Trail Map #11). Ted will book the camp. Saturday evening there will be a pot luck dinner followed by a campfire.

The group discussed having a Breakfast Competition on Sunday morning. Liam described such an activity. Each patrol would host a Scouter from another troop. The Scouter would have breakfast then offer a "restaurant review" at the closing horseshoe, awarding between three and five stars for the meal, considering taste and presentation.

NWSC Spring Camporee — May 27-29, 2005

The group settled on a cartoon theme and the name Coyote Canyon Camporee. There will be some "fun" events and some competition events. Events will include:

All Scouts are invited to submit designs for the camporee crest. Designs must include "North Waterloo Camporee 2005", be on a cartoon theme, and be presented at the January 11 Club meeting.

Registration details and other planning will be discussed at the next meeting. Volunteers for various jobs will be need at that time. It was decided that the silent auction and money will be used to encourage participation. Each troop is asked to be on the lookout for items for the auction.

Owen Sound Winter Camp — January 28-30, 2005

The Owen Sound Winter Camp was briefly discussed. Information is available on the North Waterloo Area web site.
