Regrets

Opening

The meeting opened at 19:00.

Summer Camp Opportunities

Everton Scout Camp

David Wilson attended to discuss summer camp at Everton Scout Camp. David is in charge of the Cub program there and said that it is important for each section to have its own Scouter in charge. The Scout program will run July 24-30, coinciding with the ACE Cub Camp. Swimming needs a more imaginative program, such as games and contests.

Haliburton Scout Reserve

HSR is a fantastic place to hold a summer camp. HSR staff run a series of activities with which to build your program. The camp 2000 hectare camp is canoe-focused (canoes, etc. supplied). A summer camp at HSR costs about $200 per person. 4th Waterloo may be going to HSR August 6-13. 21st Waterloo will go August 13-20. The HSR camp will be discussed more at the next meeting.

NWSC Patrol Leadership Workshop — November 5-7, 2004

Thirty Scouts representing 13 troops attended the Patrol Leadership Workshop. There were divided into four patrols. A Duty Patrol assisted with each meal. Next year the plan is to work in more hands-on leadership practice around the meals. The club may need help with "Working with Disadvantaged Youth". The Scouts stayed in the Barn. They liked mixing inside and outside activities. The Club scheduled a Patrol Leadership Workshop for November 4-6, 2005.

NWSC Fall Hike — November 19-21, 2004

Three troops participated in the fall hike through a wonderful fog. The group started at Camp of the Woodland Trails, hiked on the Bruce Trail's Hilton Falls Side Trail south through Hilton Falls Conservation Area, returning to camp via 6th Line. The original plan was to continue north on the Bruce Trail and return to camp via the other leg of the Hilton Falls Side Trail. This route would have been too long for the speed of the group. The traditional Pot Luck Banquet on Saturday was well received. Next year's hike will be November 18-20, 2005.

It was suggested that the Club consider a Leadership Hike, which would involve leaders in a learning/teaching capacity.

Spring Thaw Scouters' Social

April 19, 2005 was chosen to hold a Scouters' Social at Camp Mohawk. The North Waterloo Annual Meeting & Bar-B-Que will be May 26, 2005.

NWSC Spring Camporee — May 27-29, 2005

The group discussed the Camporee. Ted will put together the application form [it is now available on the web and at NW Scout House]. Ted and Pierre will look after the Crest. The fee will be $15. The Tuck Shop is a good money maker and the Scouts like it. Ted will ask Ed Wright to run it [Ed has agreed]. Pierre will check with Medical Venturers to see if they will do First Aid. At the next meeting, a budget will be prepared and a Camp Chief will be chosen.

Each troop is to bring an item for the Silent Auction. People will also have to search out donations and deals. Tony Skells should be invited to help us with this at the next meeting.

Main Events

Scouters suggested some events in addition to those suggested at previous meetings.

Program Schedule

Sunday

Owen Sound Winter Camp — January 28-30, 2005

Camp Mohawk Keys

The North Waterloo Property Committee will sell keys to Mohawk for $20. They are available from Peter Miller at the Scout Shop. Keys can also be borrowed for individual events for free with a $10 deposit.

Evaluation of Meeting

There were too many side bars and side conversations but much was accomplished, particularly with regard the Camporee.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 21:03. The next meetings will be Tuesday, March 22 and Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at NW Scout House.
